Memories In Light (2020-2022)
In 2015, my grandparents had to move out of their home into assisted living facilities as they could no longer care for themselves. They left behind almost everything they owned for their children, my mother, and uncle, to sort through. As their minds were slowly deteriorating due to dementia and Alzheimers, so was the house. My grandfather passed away in 2018, and my grandmother is still living in the nursing home. This story explores family ties and emotions while watching loved ones slowly lose who they once were.
Rita Miller’s daughter, Jennifer Grant, clearing out old belongings from Rita’s home on Apr. 17, 2021. She is holding a cuckoo clock that Rita’s older brother sent her while stationed with the military in Germany. Jennifer has been working to clear out her parents belongings since 2015 but can only come back so often since she lives four hours away.
